Ad designs for CrossCheck and the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Puzzle Ad
The Puzzle Ad was an ad that I built for the Greensheet publication. All of the pieces of the puzzle were clipped in Photoshop and placed in various spots. Over 30 layers in the final image.
A nice blend of opacity screens, art and text. Used InDesign and Photoshop for the production.
The Chronicle had empty spaces to fill and the filler ads took the spaces that were not sold.
Wine Club ad
The Wine Club was promoted by the Chronicle in the North Bay for all of the wine lovers.
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video project
CrossCheck held the Ice Bucket Challenge on September 4th. I employed 5 video cameras and 2 stills to capture all of the angles of the event and edited the video to use all of the cameras.

We can start with the 30 year logos I designed for CrossCheck's 30th anniversary. I made dozens of variations which were reviewed by senior management and the owner of the firm. Several were selected for different purposes.
The top logo was created to be stitched onto black shirts mostly worn at the conventions and conferences. The cross and the check are part of the corporate logo which are not to be altered. Brand identification is crucial and we take it very seriously.
The next design was a finalist in the decision but was not selected. I like the open look and the easy way that it reads. The reason it was not the final logo is that the company has other products besides check guarantee.
The third logo was the winner. I was able to have the years 1983 and 2013 on opposite sides to create the space between the 30 years and the Celebrating 30 years was direct to the point. We ran the logo and the website, blogs, letterhead, business cards, Outlook signatures and more. It was a complete makeover for the year and at the strike of the clock on January 1 2014, we switched back to the traditional logo.
The kjw marketing logo was my personal logo that I designed to use on email marketing, invoices, letterhead and business cards.
Constant Processing is a new company under the CrossCheck corporate umbrella. This logo was designed to have a simple and clean look.
Human Resources flyers
Human Resources uses the Marketing Department frequently to promote the social events such as the Annual Picnic at Six Flags and the monthly social events. The Recruiting Department also has the need for flyers at hiring events.
Annual Picnic Flyer
We have an annual picnic at CrossCheck and I am tasked with creating the flyer, sign up sheets, tickets and web banner. This is my favorite. I used an Illustrator image and revamped the waves and water pattern to allow the type to fit and be readable.
Every month, CrossCheck puts on a company social such as the BBQ Social.
Designed for the recruiting department to use at the Veterans Event in Santa Rosa.
St. Patrick's Day Social
A flyer for the St. Patrick's Day Social event.
CrossCheck attends several large national conferences during the year and I was tasked with creating convention materials such as swag giveaways, business card boxes, posters, signs, flyers, web banners and CDs. I designed the cover and jacket of the CD we used to give to prospects at the shows.
For the jacket design I used red and black which are the corporate colors used in the logo. I grabbed a vector clip from Thinkstock and revised the design to fit my CD. I dialed down the busy pattern and by removing part of the art and pulled the lines higher and lower to fit the space. We used the 30 year logo because this was made in 2013, the 30th anniversary of CrossCheck.
Created a holiday card to send via email to our clients to express our holiday schedule. Used Photoshop to blend the football and turkey images to convey the Thanksgiving spirit of food, family and the football games that are a traditional part of the gatherings.
A free lance job where I was hired to create a product flyer for a new product being introduced by Central Payment. I wanted to feature white space to draw the eye to the art on the left and then to the text on the right.
On the sales sheet below, we use our relationships with associations to promote our products and services.
Direct Mail Marketing
Part of my job in the north bay office with the Chronicle was to create direct mail pieces for our clients. The hiiko piece was interesting, the client wanted a whole new look from the ad campaign that we were running for him. The style we created for hiiko was very clean with white space and the font Avant Guarde Light. It was very clean and classy.
For the direct mail piece he wanted a new type and more art. We selected the font, Sand to use on a path (which was also a break from tradition for hiiko).
The Sonnen mailer was typical for the Marin zone. We zip code sorted the mailing to hit the better zip codes such as Tiburon, Belvedere, Sausalito and parts of San Rafael and Corte Madera. When you are selling Porsches you market to the more affluent clientele.
Tasked with restoring an old and very damaged photo. Using all of the tools that Photoshop has to offer I was able to create the version below of an old Oakland city scene.
Used over 15 layers to repair the damage, correct the color imbalance and remove the cracks and water damage.
National Design Award Winners
The Click ad was run in the Sunday Chronicle in 1998. The Design Group wanted to create a series of auto ads that were different, that used white space and quality text. This ad is the result of that creative process. The ad was submitted for consideration for the DANDY (Dealers Automotive National Design Awards) and came away with the years Best of Show ad. Judged to be the best auto ad in the country.
The Keys ad also won Best of Show in 1999. The ad was built across two adjoining pages and covered the bottom of both pages. I was the Senior Graphic Designer on the project. Also had the services of a very talented Creative Director and Copywriter for the project.
